KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno disciplinary committee will investigate claims that two Perak assemblymen supported the appointment of Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Ahmad Faizal Azumu as menteri besar.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who has assumed the duties of party president, said the decision whether to terminate the duo’s memberships would be finalised after investigations had been completed.
“According to the party constitution, the act of supporting (someone from another party) proves that they have betrayed the party and disciplinary action can be taken, including terminating their membership,” he told a press conference at the Putra World Trade Centre here today.
PH formed the new Perak state government after it got the support of two Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen – Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin and Tualang Sekah assemblyman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi.
Yesterday, both of them denied that they had jumped ship. They claimed that they were simply voicing support for the appointment of the new MB.
However, in Ipoh today Zainol announced that he would be joining Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), along with more than 200 Umno members.
Tapah Umno information chief Pazli Abdullah and three Umno division deputy chiefs have joined PPBM. They are Datuk Abdul Muhaimin Abdul Rahman Nazri (Bagan Serai), Datuk Naziruddin Bandi (Teluk Intan) and Datuk Kamarul Rashdan Salleh (Tanjung Malim).
